General Information
Regular school assemblies are held weekly for notices, student awards and commendations, visiting speakers or student contributions. From time to time other assemblies are scheduled for special occasions.
Attendance is compulsory unless a child is ill. If students are absent a telephone call to the office and a note to the teacher stating date/dates and reasons for absence is required.
Students are given award certificates for a range of endeavours including class work, sportspersonship, special efforts, good conduct, responsibility and initiative. There is a conscious effort by all staff to commend, guide and encourage students in all aspects of their school life. We use an Incentive Booklet to do this which all students have.
There are no school buses provided to bring students to Broadgreen. Public bus transport may be used.
Where negligence or mischief has caused, or contributed to damage to school or other persons property, at least part-payment by the student responsible will be required.
- Withdrawal Room: Students who behave inappropriately in the playground may be sent to the Withdrawal Room which is supervised by a teacher. If this happens a letter will be sent home describing what the behaviour was. If students are sent to the Withdrawal Room more than once they may also be involved in a lunchtime programme to alter behaviour. Parents will be notified if this happens. - Bullying: Click here to read about BULLYING, what it is and how to deal with it.
Amenity Fees: The amenity provides equipment such as sports gear, computer software, cultural resources and materials to assist the classroom programmes. It is shown on the stationery form, and can be paid during the first week or by instalments. An annual paper levy fee is also charged. A receipt is issued. Other Fees: Students may also be required to pay such things as extra materials used in technicraft classes, visiting performers, electives/modules, foreign languages, sport participation and travel costs.
On the first day the students will need to bring the following:
When students have formal homework to do parents can help by ensuring that a suitable time and space are provided and that they encourage students to read, research areas of interest and revise tables and spelling. Only on rare occasions are students expected to spend more than half an hour on homework. Many students, however, regard homework as a leisure pursuit and willingly spend large amounts of time on a variety of tasks. We commend their endeavours. Every student must have a homework diary which is part of their stationery. Parents should comment in this if homework is not being done - the classroom teacher checks this diary at least once a week. Please consult with your child's classroom teacher over homework expectations.
Classes are organised into a house system. There are three classes per house.
At Broadgreen, we wish to recognise students who consistently maintain a high level of effort and achievement. These awards recognise these students in the areas of Leadership, Co-operation and Challenge, and hope to further encourage participation in programmes and enhance achievement.
Points:
The Canteen aims to provide students with a reasonably priced, healthy lunch. Students can order their lunch between 8.30-8.45am.
All classes have rostered Library times and it will be open for individual use before and after school until 3.30 pm and at lunch time. A school newsletter is sent home to each family every two weeks.
Parents will always be advised of planned major out of school activities and permission asked for. We are always willing to meet with parents. If you wish to see a teacher or the Principal please feel free to phone and make an appointment. February: Initial opportunity to meet the teachers: - an outline of classroom procedures and expectations of the teacher - opportunity for questions, exchange of information about students, etc. March: Ten minute parent-teacher interviews to report on student progress, discuss any problems, etc. July: Mid-year written reports, with options of parent-teacher interview also if desired. 2009
2009 Students have access to the use of a telephone in an emergency. All students require teacher permission before using the school telephone. These are issued free to each student but remain the property of the school. Students will be required to pay for any damage or loss.
